Montello hears update on Church Street reconstruction and downtown highway repairs; Public Works may patch before July 4

At its June 11 meeting, the City of Montello Public Works Committee received updates on several road projects, including Church Street reconstruction and downtown highway repairs.
Kohnke said plans for the Highway 22 (Church Street) reconstruction are at 60% completion with no new information to report. Regarding the downtown highway stretch, Kohnke reported that DOT Maintenance has a project scheduled for 2036 but plans to patch and smooth the road this year. The committee agreed that if DOT does not patch the segment before July 4, the city will perform a patching operation.
Separately, the committee noted a letter had been sent to the county board chair about the condition of County Y by the courthouse. Members also discussed the intended route for the city’s 175th parade in connection with downtown road conditions.
No formal votes were taken on capital projects at the meeting; staff were directed to continue to monitor DOT schedules and to pursue short-term patching as needed.
