Commission tables Friendship Road LMIG vote; work session details road grants and repairs

At the March 4 regular meeting, the commission moved to table the Friendship Road LMIG item until the work session for further review. Commissioner Jason Frost made the motion to table; Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
At a March 25 work session, County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners the county received a local road assistance grant that will supplement LMIG funds and allow additional road work. Manager Weaver reported that McGlaun and portions of Smith Road were reworked with number-seven stone in 2017 and will need rework again this year; Liberty Hill Road and Wells Street required localized riprap repairs that were completed following a landfill inspection. The manager also reported that the new 2025 SPLOST account has begun receiving funds.
The work session included updates from recreation and community development staff. Recreation staff member Mordie Askew delivered department updates; community development staff Samantha Hedgecoke provided a packet outlining upcoming items, including a Rabies clinic set for April 5 and planned 4-H and car-show events. The packet and work-session discussion also identified agenda items to carry to the April 1 regular meeting: cemetery bylaws (Attorney to assist), conditional-use permit process (County Attorney to attend the Planning & Zoning meeting), road projects (including Liberty Hill and Riverbend), a National Donate Life proclamation request, and quarterly budget amendments.
The minutes show the Friendship Road LMIG item will be put out to bid and revisited at the next work session; bid packets had been received and technical specs required review. No vote on awarding contracts is recorded in the March 4 minutes.
