Cusseta–Chattahoochee commissioners reappoint assessors, approve BOC vehicle and enter executive session

At its Oct. 1 meeting the commission unanimously reappointed two members to the Board of Tax Assessors, approved a vehicle for use by the board of commissioners, appointed Thomas Weaver to the Two Rivers Regional Commission and entered executive session to discuss personnel and two pending legal matters including an appeal and a lawsuit referenced by the county attorney.
The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County on Oct. 1 unanimously reappointed James Wiehe and Ken Vanhorn to the Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Board of Tax Assessors, each to terms expiring Dec. 1, 2028. Commissioner Damon Hoyte moved to reappoint Wiehe; Commissioner Jason Frost seconded the motion. The board recorded the vote as unanimous among members present.
The commission also approved a vehicle for the board of commissioners, using credit to secure the purchase and postponed decisions on two other vehicles for the sheriff and emergency management agency until December pending SPLOST results, a motion made by Commissioner Jason Frost and seconded by Commissioner Damon Hoyte.
Commissioners unanimously approved a refund for Beverly Riley and appointed County Manager Thomas Weaver to the Two Rivers Regional Commission to fill a vacancy through Dec. 31, 2025. The board rescheduled its November regular meeting to Nov. 12 at 9 a.m.
Chairman Charles Coffey announced the board moved into executive session at 6:57 p.m. to discuss personnel and legal matters and reconvened at 7:44 p.m. County Attorney Bin Minter clarified there are two pending matters on file in Superior Court — an appeal from magistrate court (Case 23-CV-0257) and a separate lawsuit the attorney earlier described as involving a $5 million claim — and said those items were part of the closed-session discussion.
Several agenda items were tabled for a later work session, including use of Old City Hall by the Board of Education, the cardboard compactor at the recycling site, selection of an engineer of record and cemetery bylaws. No votes to adopt ordinances or change policy were taken during the open session beyond the motions recorded above.
