During the Sept. 23 work session, Christine Richards addressed the commission about a court matter and county services. Richards said she received a court notice for a hearing with Judge Floyd on Aug. 16 that she believes she did not receive, and she said she has been charged $260. She told the commission she believed a 911 address sign error—her sign has been recorded as '145' while her property is '140'—may have caused a missed notice. Richards said she is on a fixed income and wanted to know where the money went.
Chairman Charles Coffey and County Manager Thomas Weaver responded that the county will look into the 911 signage and address; Weaver clarified that fines are imposed by judges and that the commission does not control court fines. Commissioner Damon Hoyte asked whether Richards had issues receiving water bills, and Richards said she had experienced problems receiving water bills; commissioners said staff would investigate those billing concerns as well.
Richards thanked the commission; no formal action or vote was recorded on the public comment item, and staff were asked to follow up.
