Commission schedules Board of Elections policy reading, authorizes manager to hire director and lists other administrative items for Oct. 1

At its Sept. 3 regular meeting and Sept. 23 work session, the commission moved to schedule a first public reading of a Board of Elections policy at the next work session and discussed how the Election Supervisor would be assigned and supervised.

Vice Chairman Timothy Biddle moved to schedule the first public reading; Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. County Manager Thomas Weaver and County Clerk Lisa Bickel were discussed in relation to the Election Supervisor role; Weaver explained the Board (the three‑member Board of Elections) would bring recommendations for a supervisor and the County Manager would assign the Election Supervisor for day‑to‑day administration. Commissioners noted the County Clerk is already certified and performing election duties.

Separately, during a brief executive‑session follow‑up the commission amended the agenda to allow advice and consent for the hiring of a director and gave the County Manager consent to make that hire and announce the hire at a later meeting. The motion to approve advice‑and‑consent was made by Commissioner Frost and seconded by Commissioner Biddle and the vote was unanimous.

County Manager Weaver also previewed Oct. 1 agenda items including possible agreements for the Board of Education to use Old City Hall, a cardboard‑compactor decision (if an agreement is ready), reappointments to the Board of Tax Assessors, vehicle purchases and trades, naming Sowega/P.R. Rakel as the county engineer of record, cemetery bylaws for adoption, and rescheduling the November meeting from Election Day to Nov. 12.
