SAC outlines three-phase town hall restoration; phase two roughly estimated at $250,000

The SAC reviewed a three-phase restoration and renovation plan for the town hall at its June 3 meeting. Rebecca Schwarz, presenter, said phase one of restoration is expected to be completed by the end of the year and that the bulk of structural work is scheduled between early next month and Sept. 1, with a possible finish by October.
Schwarz outlined phase two as a full building rewiring and the installation of fire suppression systems and described phase three as the work needed to meet ADA requirements, including installing a Lula lift and a corrective ramp. When asked about costs, Heather Allain, committee member, said Schwarz provided a rough estimate of $250,000 for phase two and noted a congressionally directed spending request is pending that could cover half of phase three’s expense.
Schwarz also said the first floor will be a clear span, allowing selectmen and the planning board to meet there, although some items will need to remain under lock and key. She emphasized the current priority is structural restoration; public information sessions on future uses and configurations will be scheduled later.
Tim Berry, committee member, moved to accept the previous meeting minutes during the session; the motion was seconded and passed. Miriam Ball, meeting participant, thanked presenters and asked if they were willing to return for further questions, and both confirmed they would.
The SAC did not make final funding commitments at the meeting; the congressionally directed spending request remains pending and cost figures were described in the meeting as preliminary estimates.
