County begins audit of garbage accounts, allows business recycle accounts and tables compactor decision

County staff in Cusseta‑Chattahoochee have begun auditing residential garbage accounts and told commissioners they found 76 accounts with an extra trash can that are not being billed. County Manager Thomas Weaver said staff will contact account holders to determine whether the extra cans are billing errors or cans left behind after tenants moved out.
At the Sept. 3 meeting, the commission voted unanimously to allow businesses to establish accounts at the county recycle center. A separate proposal to buy or place a cardboard compactor at the recycle center was tabled until the next work session so staff can return with an agreement and more detail.
Commissioners framed the actions as routine policy and billing housekeeping. The count of 76 extra cans came from an initial audit; commissioners did not set a timetable at the meeting for completing account reconciliations or for implementing business accounts policies beyond approving the principle of allowing business accounts.
