County staff: November food-assistance issuance placed on hold; emergency partners meeting proposed

Melinda, a county social-services staff member joining remotely, told the board the state informed counties last week that November food-assistance benefit issuance is on hold.
"Dolores County, according to our numbers, releases around $40,000 of food assistance benefits every month," Melinda said, emphasizing the local economic and household impact of paused benefits and recommending an emergency meeting of county partners to plan response and gap coverage.
She proposed convening an emergency partners meeting (she suggested Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.) and inviting emergency management, the school district, public health, senior-services staff and nonprofit partners to discuss resource-sharing, potential short-term funding and the use of Dolores County social-services funds if necessary.
Board members agreed the meeting should proceed and asked staff to post the notice and reach out to stakeholders. Melinda said she would try to gather information from a Montezuma County emergency meeting to inform local planning.
The board did not adopt immediate emergency funding at the meeting; the emergency partners meeting was proposed to determine options and next steps.
