Richardson County approves rehire of former deputy amid split vote; approves small equipment purchase

Deputy Sheriff Dexter Holliday asked the Richardson County Board of Commissioners on July 1 to rehire former deputy Braden Shiley and updated the board on routine operations at the Law Enforcement Center. Holliday also described a proposed deck system for storage on a newly acquired pickup, estimating the purchase at about $1,500. The board approved the purchase with the cost to be placed on next year's budget. Holliday reported the net proceeds from a June 27 K-9 Golf Tournament as $7,260.50.
The rehire motion, recorded in the meeting minutes, was initiated by Commissioner Karas and seconded by Commissioner Campbell. No further personnel actions were taken at the meeting; the vote record in the minutes shows one dissenting vote by Chairman John Caverzagie.
The board took the action as part of routine business and moved on to other agenda items. The meeting adjourned at 10:41 a.m.; the board will meet again July 8, 2026.
