Milton council approves new ABC license and keeps Caswell County oversight of floodplain

Milton’s Town Council unanimously approved a new business alcoholic beverage control (ABC) application and affirmed county enforcement of the town’s floodplain ordinance during its Feb. 7 meeting.
Commissioner Valerie Sottile moved to accept the ABC application submitted by Aunt Millie’s Milton North Carolina LLC; Commissioner Cathia Stewart seconded the motion and the council voted in favor. Mayor Patricia Williams said the newly elected local ABC commissioner will notarize and file the application.
On floodplain enforcement, Mayor Williams explained Milton already has a Flood Damage Prevention District in its ordinance consistent with recent statutory (160-D) approvals and asked the council to continue Caswell County oversight so the county can enforce penalties. Commissioner Sherri Garrard moved the measure, Mayor Pro Tem. John Wallace seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The council also approved two administrative policies required for federal funds oversight. Commissioner Valerie Sottile moved to adopt a Record Retention Policy governing how American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds are documented and retained; Commissioner Sherri Garrard seconded and the policy was approved. Commissioner Cathia Stewart moved to adopt a Non‑Discrimination Policy (said to follow federal rules); Mayor Pro Tem. John Wallace seconded and the council approved it without objection.
All routine approvals at the meeting were recorded as unanimous votes. The meeting adjourned at 7:58 p.m.; the council scheduled its next meeting for March 14, 2023.
