Milton mayor announces heritage-trail opening, tourism outreach and website plans

Milton, N.C. — In her April 11 report, Mayor Patricia Williams highlighted local tourism and outreach efforts and previewed changes to the town’s website.

Williams said she and Town Clerk Shirley Wilson and Commissioner Valerie Sottile met with U.S. House Representative Renee Price on March 27 to discuss local issues. She reported that WithersRavenel was the only firm to respond to the town’s RFQ for engineering services and that staff will pursue preliminary engineering reports (PER) and a capital improvement plan (CIP); Commissioner John Wallace described the RFQ review and named local contacts (including Ken Ori and Dan Aiello) who may support the work.

The mayor announced the Milton Heritage Walking Trail grand opening for April 30, 2023, 1:00–3:00 p.m., and said food donations at the entrance will benefit High Street Baptist Church’s outreach. She also said Caswell County received a tourism-consultant grant that includes work by a group called Uplift to boost rural cultural and historical assets.

On the website, Commissioner Valerie Sottile said new tabs will include photos, a town calendar, planning-board information, town activities and TDH updates; the board discussed creating a Web Governing Policy to manage a secure .gov site and establish rules for web-team operations.

The town posted a May 9, 2023 meeting agenda and a public notice about a flood-plain mapping open house on May 23, 2023 at Milton Town Hall with Caswell County planning staff and NC Department of Public Safety representatives available to discuss Country Line Creek flood mapping.

The board adjourned at 7:59 p.m.; the next regular meeting is May 9, 2023.
