At a public hearing on Nov. 8, Mayor Patricia Williams reviewed proposed amendments to Articles 12–16 of Milton's zoning rules to bring the town into compliance with North Carolina General Statute 160D.
Mayor Williams reviewed the changes on a whiteboard and explained revisions to sections referencing nonconforming situations (Section 12.9), proceedings of the Zoning Board of Adjustment (Section 13.2), conditional use permit procedures (Section 13.5), appeals from the Board of Adjustment (Section 13.6, including cross‑references to NCGS 160D‑405 and 160D‑1403.1), and several subsections in Article XV (Sections 15.3–15.6.4). The packet of redlined changes was attached to the meeting minutes.
Commissioner Cathia Stewart moved to accept the ordinances as presented; Commissioner John Wallace Jr. seconded. "All were in favor," the record states, and the board adopted the amendments that evening. Mayor Williams said the approved language will be posted on the town website after final processing.
The amendments are administrative steps to align Milton's local zoning procedures with state statute; the board did not vote on any site‑specific development approvals during the hearing.
