Commission approves street closure for annual Garden Spot Run & Walk

The Franklin City Commission voted to authorize street closures for the Garden Spot Run & Walk, the event's 43rd annual run that organizers said typically closes streets from about 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
"This is the 43rd time we will have closed streets for the garden spot run and walk," said Steve Thurman, the event organizer, who described the route starting and ending in front of the Methodist Church and thanked city staff and roughly 120 volunteers who support the event. "The closures are generally from about 7AM to about 9AM depending on how fast the last walker walks."
Mayor Dixon moved to approve the request after Thurman's presentation; the commission voted and the motion carried. Commissioners and staff discussed notification and traffic control measures to alert residents along the course and thanked public-safety personnel for their assistance.
The city will implement the advertised notification plan in advance of the event and coordinate closures with the police and public-works departments. The commission did not amend the proposed course or timing when it approved the request.
