Franklin commission authorizes engineering work to boost water pressure and raise tanks

The Franklin City Commission voted to authorize the city to hire Water Management Services to engineer two near-term water system projects: pump upgrades at the water plant and design work for raising the city’s water tanks.
Trent Coffey, speaking for city operations, said the work is intended to “ensure adequate water pressure, maintain fire protection, improve system reliability, and meet future growth.” Coffey told the commission the immediate engineering costs were estimated at about $115,000 for pump upgrades and $80,000 for tank-raising work and said those amounts are budgeted for the current year.
Commissioner Powell moved to authorize the contracts; Commissioner Bush seconded. The commission approved the motion by roll call, with all recorded members voting yes.
The commission and staff said the two projects are the most urgent in a longer program of water-line and distribution-system replacements. Staff noted later phases could include engineering and replacement of older galvanized mains.
The authorization allows the mayor to sign contracting documents; staff said additional, project-specific approvals will follow as engineering scopes and costs are finalized.
