The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly on July 16 voted unanimously to convene into an executive session to evaluate applicants for an assembly appointment. The motion, moved by Mister Whiteside, cited Alaska statutes and the Kodiak Island Borough code provision permitting executive-session discussion of matters that could prejudice a person’s reputation or character.
Mister Whiteside moved "to convene into executive session to discuss qualifications of applicants per Alaska statutes and Kodiak Island borough code 2.30 0.030 e 1 c." The motion was seconded, and the roll-call vote passed unanimously. The assembly then voted to invite the mayor, assembly members and the clerk into the executive session. Mayor Griffin told the public the session would be brief and that nominations and the public vote would occur after the executive session.
Candidates were previously noticed and were given the option to request a public discussion, the assembly said. No appointment vote was recorded in the public portion of the meeting at the time the session convened.
