Vice Mayor Kate Cates said the town should require a written guarantee and ask whether the state would inspect the work to ensure town employees or users are not exposed to persistent contamination. Alderman Campbell asked staff to vet Shield Environmental’s track record and provide references to confirm the company’s ability to deliver the work as promised.
Town Manager Ellis said he would pursue answers and provide the board with the firm’s scope of work and documentation; no contract was approved at the meeting and the board did not allocate capital funds at this session. The mayor noted limited capital funds and said staff will continue to explore options to repair or replace space for senior and town programs.
The board did not take a final vote on remediation at the meeting; staff were asked to return with written scope, guarantees and any required inspection/clearance documentation.
