Palos Park council approves pump repairs, HVAC and tree‑planting contracts

At its July 13 meeting, the Palos Park Village Council approved a slate of public‑works and facilities maintenance contracts the village’s public‑works commissioner presented as routine repairs and budgeted replacements.
Commissioner Patan told the council that one of the Ramsgate Lift Station pumps had failed earlier in the year and recommended rebuilding the existing 20‑horsepower Metropolitan pump for $7,441 (Met Pump) to serve as a spare rather than buying a new $23,310 unit; the council approved the rebuild by roll call.
Patan also recommended replacing a failing pump at the Rominga Lift Station with a Metropolitan Pump unit at $13,945, funded from the 2025–26 pump replacement budget; that purchase passed on a roll call vote.
For the Kinvarra Lift Station, Patan said Flow Technics had a pump in stock and offered a reduced price of $9,999 (from $11,176); the council approved that purchase.
On village facilities, public works reported that one of two Johnson control panels for the CAPTOR HVAC system failed after a water leak in May; Building Automation Solutions proposed replacing one control panel for $7,900, which the council approved. The council also approved Comfort Zone’s proposal to replace an irreparable outdoor compressor, fan and motor on the police‑side HVAC for $12,315.
Patan moved to waive formal bidding and hire iTrees to supply and plant the village’s fall trees, using the tree‑bank fund; the arborist estimated a 2026 program cost of $22,000 (down from $27,000 in 2025). The council approved waiving bids and authorizing up to $22,000 for the program; Patan noted iTrees provides one free tree for every 10 purchased and has served the village for more than a decade.
Public works also sought and received approval to replace a snow‑plow blade and controls on truck 42 (a 2011 Ford F550) from Regional Truck Equipment for $8,183.
All motions were moved and seconded on the floor and carried by roll call. Council members and staff characterized the items as routine and budgeted maintenance and replacement work.
