The Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 11 approved several health-department actions.
The board approved a contract with ALZY Environmental Services, LLC to provide registered sanitarian services at $41 per hour for an average of 24 hours per week for the period Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2025. The motion was moved by Commissioner Garber and seconded by Commissioner Holzhausen and passed by roll-call vote 7–0.
The board also approved a Medical Director services contract with Dr. Dennis Chernin for $41,280 for the period Jan. 1–Dec. 31, 2025; that motion passed unanimously. Separately, the board approved replacement of two social worker positions at Grade 10 to support the Durand and Perry School Wellness Programs (motion carried 7–0).
Finally, the board authorized a grant application between the Shiawassee County Health Department and Michigan’s Licensing and Regulatory Affairs for Marijuana Education & Outreach in an amount not to exceed $26,226 and authorized the board chair to execute necessary documents. The motion carried with a roll-call vote of 6 yeas and 1 nay; the meeting minutes record Commissioner Garber as the lone nay on that grant application.
