San Carlos Unified board accepts $1,500 STEM grant and approves mechanics' training trip

The San Carlos Unified School District Governing Board on Feb. 13 approved the acceptance of a $1,500 Exploration Generation (ExGEN) grant from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Estes to support Rice Intermediate School's STEM Club aerospace project and science fair expenses for the 2025-26 school year. The motion was made by Katrina Talkalai and seconded by Dimitri Nzeukou and passed 4-0 (Dr. Leon Ben, Aaron Miles, Katrina Talkalai, Dimitri Nzeukou voted yes).
The board also approved travel for two district transportation mechanics, Steven Tessay and Mack Dewey, to attend a Canyon State Bus Sales training on Blue Bird school bus production in Atlanta on March 9-11, 2026. The board noted the training would be at no cost to the district; the motion to approve the staff travel was seconded by Katrina Talkalai and recorded as approved in the minutes.
