Manasquan Board approves financial reports, contracts and construction pay applications, requests $3.876 million in taxes

The Manasquan Board of Education on Nov. 19 approved monthly financial reports, several contracts and construction pay applications and asked the Borough of Manasquan to release $3,876,136 to meet the district’s obligations for the next eight weeks. Alexis Pollock presided over the combined Committee of the Whole and Regular Board meeting at the Manasquan High School media center.
Peter Crawley, Ed.D., the school business administrator and board secretary, certified that no line item had been overexpended and that sufficient funds were available to meet the district’s financial obligations, citing state budget rules. On a motion by Joseph Loffredo, seconded by Thomas Pellegrino, the board accepted financial and investment reports for the month ending Oct. 31, 2024, and approved transfers recommended by the superintendent; the roll call vote was recorded as Ayes 9, Nays 0, Abstain 0, Absent 3.
The board recorded bills (current expense) totaling $2,609,711.69 for November and confirmed October bills at $3,387,911.33. The board also resolved to request $3,876,136.00 in district taxes, including debt service, from the Manasquan Borough Council to meet the board’s obligations in the coming weeks.
Other financial actions on the consent agenda included acceptance of Central Funds reports, approval of purchase orders, and cafeteria reports. The board accepted a $1,750 donation from LandCare to help renovate and repair the high school athletic field and a $3,929 New Jersey School Insurance Group safety award to help fund security guard salaries. The board approved contracting the New Jersey School Boards Association to help facilitate development of the district strategic plan at a cost of $4,500.
The board approved a contract with Xtel Communications for internet, voice and hosted fax services, effective Dec. 1, 2024, through June 30, 2028, at a monthly cost of $1,932.65, based on cooperative purchasing bids through the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey. The board also approved acceptance of a shared-time Neptune Township student at an adjusted tuition rate of $10,107.50 for the 2024–25 school year.
On construction and facilities matters, Pay Application #5 from H&S Construction for Manasquan High School and Elementary School renovations/repairs was approved for $377,668.85 following reconvening from executive session. A separate Pay Application #6 from Honeywell ACS Building Solutions for the ESIP project, listed at $801,694.11, was included on the agenda but noted as pending architect and attorney review and was not finalized at the public meeting.
The motions on financial and contract items were taken as consent items and passed by roll call. The board entered executive session at 7:19 p.m. to discuss litigation/contract matters and personnel and reconvened at 7:41 p.m. before taking the final votes. The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:42 p.m.
