State designates Grand Haven Cyber School for three-year improvement plan; staff outline actions

The Michigan Department of Education has designated Grand Haven Cyber School as requiring a Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) plan for three years after determining the school was low performing in math, reading and graduation rate, staff reported at the Teaching & Learning Committee meeting on June 8.
Mary Jane Evink summarized the state finding and described planned actions to raise growth in ELA and math, including continued collaboration with the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District (OAISD). Evink said the school year is being extended this year using grant funds to give students additional time to complete coursework.
Evink told the committee that performance levels for the cyber school likely mirror trends seen in other cyber schools and that staff will work with OAISD to implement improvement strategies. The Teaching & Learning Committee requested a follow-up update at the same time next year to review progress on the CSI plan.
