Gregg County approves FAA grant application, airport contracts and bridge modifications

The Gregg County Commissioners Court on July 14 authorized airport-related grant applications, contract awards and construction change orders for the East Texas Regional Airport.
An airport official requested permission to apply to the Federal Aviation Administration for a grant to install security fencing and gates; the court authorized the application and authorized the county judge to execute required documents. The court also approved a KSA task order for the design of a new airport entry sign using TxDOT funds and approved a contract with Oshkosh Airport Products to purchase an aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) vehicle for $1,035,377 as part of previously awarded bids.
The court approved a final reconciliation for a rotating-beacon replacement project that reduced the contract by $1,410. It also approved a change order for the passenger boarding-bridge project to add a tow bar, hurricane-style straps for high-wind tie-downs and a terminal door modification to fix leakage and improve ADA compliance; the court noted the boarding-bridge door work is outside FAA grant scope and will be paid with county funds.
County staff and the airport manager described repeated wind-related incidents and ongoing drainage/leakage problems at the boarding area; the change order was presented as a safety and security improvement. Each of these items was approved by the court by voice vote.
