The City of Byron Mayor and Council on June 8 unanimously approved several resolutions and motions affecting city finance, contracts and local projects.
Council approved a resolution authorizing supplemental appropriations tied to the FY2025 audit after a motion by Chris Hodges and second by Michael Chumbley. The resolution references a detailed Exhibit "A" on file with the City Clerk specifying line‑item appropriations and disappropriations.
The council also authorized the mayor to sign a lease agreement with Heart of Georgia Community Action Agency, Inc. for the city’s senior center, and approved an agreement with Bennett Financial Services, LLC for certified public accountant services; both measures passed on unanimous motions.
On ordinances, the council held a first reading of Ordinance 2026‑3 concerning land development and adopted Ordinance 2026‑4, which updates the city code (Chapter 38) related to roads designated for speed detection devices. The adoption was moved by Chris Hodges, seconded by Michael Chumbley, and passed unanimously.
For capital projects and procurement, the council approved Helix Grading & Utility, LLC as the low bidder per Georgia Water & Environmental Services’ recommendation for the Manchester Project. The Fire Department was authorized to surplus 27 in‑service and 28 out‑of‑service Interspiro air packs, directing proceeds toward purchasing new Scott air packs and equipment.
The council approved the city’s pro rata share ($2,074.78) for the Warner Robins Area Transportation Study (WRATS) FY2027 match.
Finally, Council approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to execute an intergovernmental agreement with Peach County, Fort Valley, Perry and Warner Robins to place a renewed TSPLOST on the November 2026 ballot. That resolution was added to the agenda earlier in the meeting and passed unanimously.
At 7:01 p.m., the council voted to enter a closed session under O.C.G.A. §50‑14‑2 to discuss litigation, reconvened to open session at 7:18 p.m., and adjourned at 7:19 p.m. All recorded motions and adoptions at this meeting passed by unanimous vote.
