Police Chief Chad McNeill presented the department’s monthly report June 8, reporting five traffic collisions with no injuries, four collisions with injuries, 98 traffic stops that produced 26 citations, 25 school resource officer home visits and five drug‑related charges (all marijuana related). Chief McNeill also reported that Officer Medley has resigned from the department.
On school security, Chief McNeill said the individual previously responsible for weapons detection duties will be replaced through a school district-managed hiring process; once selected, that person will be trained and certified as a Class III officer and the position is expected to be filled before the school year begins.
Fire Chief Brandon McNeill told Council the department responded to 40 calls in May, including motor vehicle accidents, medical calls, brush and structure fires, vehicle fires and mutual aid responses. He said the department completed purchases using V‑SAFE grant funds totaling approximately $14,700 for new automated external defibrillators and pagers, and that an Assistance to Firefighters Grant application remains open through June 22.
Chief Brandon McNeill noted that recent rainfall has reduced brush‑fire risk but cautioned that summer months typically bring increased fire activity and that the July 4 holiday could present additional challenges related to fireworks.
