Los Fresnos council approves audit contract, renews waste services and sets election logistics

The Los Fresnos City Council voted to approve several administrative and service contracts and to set election logistics during its July meeting.
The council approved a three-year engagement with Burton, Macomber & Longoria, LLP to provide annual financial audits for fiscal years ending in September 2027 and 2028; Mark said the firm agreed to rates that held earlier increases in check. The council also approved a five-year extension with Republic Services for solid-waste collection and disposal; Mark noted a 4% annual cap on increases and that Republic will hold rates flat for the first renewal year.
Councilors voted to adopt the order of elections for the Nov. 3, 2026 municipal election and authorized the city secretary to make any changes required by the governor or the Cameron County Elections Office. The council also approved a contract with the Cameron County Elections Administration to conduct early and election-day voting for the city election.
Finally, the council authorized issuing an RFP for administrative services and an RFQ for engineering services to pursue Texas Department of Agriculture CDBG funding for the next cycle; Mark said prior CDBG awards have been around $750,000 with a typical 10% local match requirement.
All items were approved by motion during the meeting; no opposing votes or abstentions were recorded on the meeting floor.
