Los Fresnos council accepts petition to annex 54.761-acre tract and schedules public hearing

The Los Fresnos City Council voted to accept a petition requesting annexation of a roughly 54.761-acre tract of land located on the south side of Stanford Road, approximately 925 feet east of Old Alice Road (FM 1575), and set a date for a public hearing. The petition describes multiple sub-parcels and refers to recorded plats in county map records.

City Manager Mark explained the property boundaries and said water service for that area lies within the East Rio Hondo service area, while the city’s sewer service area covers the property. He said the developer plans to install streets, lighting and other improvements and that a previous agreement requires the developer to upgrade pumps and electrical capacity at the city’s Whipple lift station to protect existing customers’ service.

Council members asked whether utility sizing in the new subdivisions would be part of the current engineering scope; Mark said the current authorization focuses on older areas and not on sizing for future annexations, although the earlier system study considered likely expansion limits. After discussion the council accepted the petition and moved to set a public hearing date.

The council’s acceptance initiates the formal annexation process and sets the stage for a later public hearing, during which residents and affected utilities may comment.
