Commission increases Sheriff's Office drug-seizure operating line by $50,000

On June 8 the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners approved increasing an operating line in the Sheriff's Office budget by $50,000 to permit expenditure of drug-seizure funds for law-enforcement purposes.
Commissioner John Thomas made the motion and Commissioner Greg Jones seconded; the motion passed 3-0. The minutes specify the increase would be applied to Account #211-3300-531160-00 and that expenditures will be funded by revenue already seized from drug dealers rather than from the county's general fund.
The minutes do not enumerate planned purchases or programs financed with the additional $50,000. County staff did not present further expenditure detail at the meeting. The increase will allow the Sheriff's Office to use seized funds within the approved account for operational purposes under normal accounting controls.
