NORWICH TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Following resident concerns and a community meeting, the Norwich Township Board of Trustees on May 5 outlined a draft resolution to change parking rules on Darbyshire Drive and Cameron Road to address school‑period safety and traffic bottlenecks.
Chair Kelli Arthur Hykes summarized input from residents and guidance from the Franklin County Engineer, saying the changes attempt to balance pedestrian safety with neighborhood parking needs. Under the proposal, parking would be allowed on the west side of Cameron Road at all times but restricted on the east side during school arrival and dismissal hours; no parking would be permitted within 30 feet of intersections. On Darbyshire Drive, north-side parking would be allowed except near intersections and marked school drop-off/pickup zones, while south-side parking would be restricted during school hours. The township would install signage showing permitted times and locations and would enforce parking via posted rules.
Trustees also discussed nonregulatory steps: continuing sidewalk-grant applications, requesting a traffic study in the fall, encouraging school crossing-guard retention, and coordinating a walker-safety practice day with the school. Administrator Jamie Fisher said the draft resolution will be posted online for further community review and the board will return with a formal resolution for consideration.
