The Soldotna Planning and Zoning Commission on April 1 recommended that the City Council approve street name and suffix adjustments for the Soldotna Junction Subdivision, Addition No. 24, to align with the city’s street‑naming exhibit and borough mapping standards.
Director Mitchell presented the preliminary plat and explained that several proposed names used suffixes that do not conform to the city’s exhibit A. Mitchell recommended changing Foothill Road to Foothill Circle where the street terminates in a cul‑de‑sac, changing Devon Drive to Devon Court for the cul‑de‑sac segment, and adjusting other suffixes to match the codified method for street naming. “If you really look at it, Foothill Road continues on for that northern part... in the past previous plat it was identified as Foothill Circle, and that's what staff is recommending,” Mitchell said.
A commissioner asked how property owners and utilities would be notified; Mitchell described the process: staff submits address changes to the Kenai Peninsula Borough GIS and emergency‑911 system, typically receives confirmation within about a week, and then sends letters to property owners and utilities (including USPS) after the borough updates its systems.
With no objections, the commission recommended approval of the suffix and naming changes for the Soldotna Junction Subdivision, Addition No. 24, and moved on to other business.
