Soldotna Chamber outlines visitor-center activity and leadership transition

Heidi Sorrell, director of the Soldotna Chamber and Visitor Center, told the City Council on April 8 that the chamber kicked off 2026 with a range of community events and outreach efforts and that Sarah Hundell will step into the executive-director role on May 1.
Sorrell said the chamber and visitor center have hosted events including a scholarship fair, ribbon cuttings, Frozen River Fest and a job-shadow day. She described the visitor center’s digital outreach as growing — reporting increased followers on the chamber’s social pages and a high newsletter open rate — and said staff have been mailing visitor guides and relocation packets to prospective residents.
Sarah Hundell, who Sorrell said will take on the executive-director role starting May 1, described new advertising placements for Soldotna materials and the chamber’s presence at trade and community events. She highlighted partnerships, including help from local volunteers to unload and distribute visitor guides.
Council members thanked the chamber for its programs and for the recent scholarship fair. One council member noted the Alaska Community Foundation processed many statewide scholarship requests and reported several local awards; another council member praised the chamber’s job-shadow and student-art-spotlight efforts.
Sorrell closed by thanking the city for its partnership and support. The council offered no questions that changed the chamber’s plans and returned the item to the mayor.
