Franklin approves purchase of de-icing salt from Detroit Salt Company at $53.40 per ton

Public Works Director Steve Inman presented bids from five vendors: American Rock Salt ($70.00/ton), Compass Minerals America ($62.75/ton), Cargill Deicing Tech. ($61.00/ton), Morton Salt ($53.50/ton) and Detroit Salt Company ($53.40/ton). He recommended Detroit Salt Company based on the price and the city’s prior experience with the vendor.
Mr. Inman also reported the city has approximately 2,300–2,400 tons of salt remaining from the prior season. Councilmember Carl Bray asked about leftover salt; Mr. Inman provided the estimate. Council voted to approve the recommendation and the resolution authorizing the purchase.
Next steps: Public Works will complete procurement with Detroit Salt Company and schedule deliveries per winter-season needs.
