Chattahoochee Hills approves 23.4-acre annexation, sets FY2025 tax rate at 8.2% and OKs routine agreements

The Chattahoochee Hills City Council on Aug. 6 voted to annex 23.4 acres of Coweta County land into the city and to set the FY2025 ad valorem tax rate at 8.2%, while approving a slate of routine contracts and budget items.
Director of Community Development Mike Morton described the annexation proposal as two adjacent Coweta parcels totaling 23.4 acres that would be zoned RL (Rural) if brought into the city and placed in Council District 5. The council took public comment before the vote: applicant Todd Slagle said he purchased the land to build a custom home and “wanted to be a resident of Chatt Hills,” and neighbor Joel DeSmarteau said he and his family supported the move and “would welcome him with open arms to Chattahoochee Hills.” No speakers opposed the annexation. The ordinance to amend municipal limits, voting districts and the zoning map passed 4–1; Councilmember Lightsey cast the lone no vote.
The council also adopted an ordinance fixing the city’s FY2025 ad valorem tax rate at 8.2%. There were no public speakers on the tax-rate item; the motion passed unanimously.
In the same meeting the council approved multiple routine items, including an agreement with CoCo’s Cupboard for animal control services, a memorandum of understanding with Fulton County Schools for speed-zone detection devices near school zones, a $10,000 donation to Brickworks from the FY2024 capital budget, and a concept plan approval for Serenbe Land Co. The council also authorized the purchase of two John Deere Z930M commercial mowers from SunSouth, LLC for $24,875.62 under a Sourcewell contract and moved the Sept. 5 work session start time to 3:30 p.m.
