Sara Nelson sworn in as Brooks council member; abstains on agenda and minutes votes
Summary
Sara Nelson was sworn in to Council Post 5 by Judge Scott Ballard. Shortly after being sworn, Nelson abstained from votes to approve the meeting agenda and the Oct. 20 minutes; both motions passed. The council also unanimously approved its proposed 2026 meeting schedule.
Judge Scott Ballard administered the oath of office to Sara Nelson at the start of the Nov. 17 meeting; upon completing the oath Nelson was officially sworn in as Council Member for Post 5.
Ballard said he was heartened by young people taking an interest in civic service: "my heart was thrilled that we have young people who are interested in making their community as strong as possible." After the swearing-in, Mayor Daniel Langford asked for routine motions. Council Member Scott Israel moved to approve the agenda as presented; Ted Britt seconded and Nelson abstained. Later the council approved the draft Oct. 20 minutes on a motion from Ted Britt, seconded by Scott Israel; Nelson again abstained.
On a separate motion, the council unanimously approved the list of 2026 council meeting dates (third Mondays, with adjustments for January and February holidays).
The meeting then proceeded to committee reports and other business.
