Buford City Commission administers oaths, reorganizes leadership for 2026

The Buford City Commission convened at Buford City Hall on Jan. 5, 2026, where officials administered oaths of office and completed its annual reorganization.
Mr. Jay, the city attorney, administered oaths to Bradley W. Weeks and Chris Burge as members of the commission and to Bruce Fricks and Kathleen Perkins for the Buford City Schools Board of Education. The commission approved the meeting agenda and the minutes of its Dec. 1, 2025 meeting (motion by Chris Burge, seconded by Bradley W. Weeks; ayes 3, nays 0).
Chairman Phillip Beard announced he would step down as chairman; the commission then voted to nominate Phillip Beard as Commission Chairman for 2026 (motion by Chris Burge, seconded by Bradley W. Weeks). Commissioner Beard abstained; the motion carried: ayes 2, nays 0, abstain 1. The commission also nominated Chris Burge as Commission Vice-Chairman (motion by Phillip Beard, seconded by Bradley W. Weeks). Commissioner Burge abstained; the motion carried: ayes 2, nays 0, abstain 1.
The commission approved appointment of department heads for 2026 as presented by staff. Commissioner Chris Burge abstained from votes on the appointments of the Recreation Director and the Water Plant Superintendent where noted. All other procedural motions passed by recorded ayes 3, nays 0.
The meeting proceeded to public hearings and other business after the reorganization.
