The Hope Select Board on Aug. 26 approved a series of formal actions, including awarding the 2025 Ludwig Road paving contract and setting the town's fiscal year 2026 mil rate.
John Monroe, the town's road commissioner, presented paving estimates. Charles Weidman moved to award the Ludwig Road 2025 paving contract to All States Constructions at $132.50 per ton; Joseph Tassi seconded the motion and it passed 5-0.
The Select Board suspended to convene as the Board of Assessors and set the FY2026 mil rate at 11.43. Ellery Bane, the Assessor's Agent, distributed commitment documents for signatures; the motion to set the mil rate was moved by Weidman, seconded by Wayne Luce and approved unanimously.
Other motions approved by unanimous vote included adopting the Knox County Hazard Mitigation 2025 Update and signing the municipal resolution; confirming Eben Merrifield as a Town of Hope firefighter; accepting a $49,000 donation from Rick Bresnahan for fire-department equipment purchases in the FY26 budget; issuing a refund of $1,567.31 to Kathryn Ryan for prepaid FY26 property taxes at 83 Barrett Hill Rd; approving a CMP pole permit on Barnestown Road; carrying forward $10,000 (FY24 auditing services) and $11,000 (FY25 auditing services) to FY26; and carrying forward $391,066.38 from the FY25 Winter Maintenance Snowplowing & Equipment Bond to FY26.
Votes and motions listed in the meeting record were moved and seconded by Select Board members, and each motion in the minutes passed by a 5-0 vote.
What happens next: signed commitment documents and contract paperwork will be completed as required; the Rubb Building Systems presentation on sand shed and public works garage proposals was rescheduled to Sept. 23, 2025, for further discussion of infrastructure needs.
