Brooklet hears proposal to outsource trash collection; council tables Randy Newman license to review finances

A private trash contractor pitched outsourcing Brooklet's sanitation operations at the March 19 council meeting while the council also delayed action on county use of the Randy Newman Community Center.
Jay Hodges, general manager of All Green Services LLC, told the council his firm could provide full-service waste collection for municipalities, potentially reducing capital costs for trucks, maintenance and staffing. Hodges said the company currently serves about 130,000 customers and operates across multiple municipalities. "Reduce costs. Eliminate equipment/maintenance expenses," the presenter stated when summarizing the company's offer.
Council members said the sanitation issue required further evaluation in light of rising sanitation costs and the city's fiscal concerns; they took no immediate action on outsourcing.
Separately, the council discussed a license agreement for the Randy Newman Community Center related to a Bulloch County summer-camp program and expressed concern that rental fees were low relative to actual costs. Councilman Brad Anderson moved, and Keith Roughton seconded, to table the license agreements and direct staff to produce a revenue/expenditure report for consideration at next month's meeting. The motion passed 5-0.
The two items remain under staff review; the council asked for a clearer financial picture before approving the community-center licensing arrangement or making changes to sanitation operations.
