Brooklet council awards Cone Street gravity sewer contract to low bidder SEC Site Work for $1.085M

The City of Brooklet voted March 19 to award the Cone Street Gravity Sewer Project (PE25124) to SEC Site Work for $1,085,333.00 after City Engineer Wesley Parker presented bid results and recommended the lowest, responsive bidder.
Parker told the council there were 11 bidders on the project with low bids from SEC Site Work at $1,085,333.00, McLendon Enterprises at $1,169,695.90 and Shockley Plumbing at $1,233,576.00. "SEC appears to have adequate experience and technical ability to complete this project," Parker said in explaining the recommendation.
Councilman Brad Anderson moved to accept Parker's recommendation; Mayor Pro-Tem Keith Roughton seconded and the council voted 5-0 (Ayes: Brad Anderson, Keith Roughton, Phillip Oliver, Sheila Wentz, Rebecca Kelly). The motion carried.
The Cone Street award follows updates Parker provided earlier on the city's water and sewer program: the water-main project to Cromley Road is complete, a sewer project is essentially finished pending a pressure test, and the Gravity Sewer Project is the remaining major contract not yet started. Parker said residents who later connect in the downtown district will be responsible for purchasing pumps, hiring installers and paying tap fees once service is available.
The council did not specify a construction start date in the meeting; Parker and staff will proceed with contract administration and next steps for the awarded contractor.
