Brooks staff report revenue gains and outline transportation projects; Liberty Tech access estimated at $17,500 materials

The Brooks Town Council received routine reports on finance, recreation and transportation during its Jan. 27 meeting.
Lorey Spohr, town clerk and finance officer, reviewed December financials and said LOST revenue for December was up 9.63% versus the prior year and LOST year-to-date was up 9.22%. She also reported 2023 SPLOST revenue for November was up 9.85% year-over-year and YTD up 7.94%.
In the Town Manager report, M. Ungaro said the Fayette County Road Department offered to perform work on an alternative access for Liberty Tech for materials-only cost, which he estimated would bring the town’s out-of-pocket cost to about $17,500. Ungaro said an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Fayette County and the Fayette County Board of Education would be required before work proceeds. He also cited the County’s Safe Streets for All draft audit, which recommended only signage and marking improvements for the Hwy 85 Connector/Morgan Mill Rd. intersection; Ungaro recommended petitioning other municipalities and the county to consider using 2017 and 2023 SPLOST funds in combination to pay for needed intersection improvements.
Staff also reported that Brooks Chapel’s handicapped ramp was replaced (handrail and tread tape remain to be installed) and that repairs to the library door and awning following vehicle damage in Sept. 2024 have been reimbursed to the town. The council adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
