Brooks OKs $5,000 toward 115th celebration and $1,500 for 'Brooks-opoly' fundraising squares

The Brooks Town Council voted to support community celebration and a commemorative board game during its Jan. 27 meeting.
Bishop Watts, a member of the 115th Brooks Celebration committee, outlined plans for a Nov. 15, 2025 event that organizers say will mark the town’s charter history and include Brunswick stew and chili cookoffs, history presentations, a band, vendor booths and children’s activities. Town staff requested a $5,000 contribution to cover trophies, kids’ activities, porta-potties, traffic control, advertising and a temporary food-service payment to a vendor; staff said other elements—live band, DJ, Brooks cookbook—have committed sponsorships or donated labor. The council approved the $5,000 contribution (to be charged in FY2026) unanimously.
Staff also proposed producing a commemorative “Brooks-opoly” board game as a self-funding fundraiser. The project cost was presented as $9,700 to manufacture 600 games at an expected $32 retail price; the town pledged $1,500 to purchase squares on the board to support the project. Council Member Todd Speer moved and Council Member Ted Britt seconded the motion to approve the town’s $1,500 participation; the vote was unanimous.
Organizers said fundraising for the game will run Feb. 1–July 21, 2025, and that any unsold square or card revenue would be fully refunded. The council’s votes authorized the town contributions but did not create additional ongoing town obligations in the meeting minutes.
