Brooks delays decision on Hwy 85 Connector/McIntosh Rd. raised median project to review drawings

The Brooks Town Council discussed a proposal to modify the McIntosh Road median at the Hwy 85 Connector to improve pedestrian access and slow turning vehicles but deferred final action pending project drawings.
Town staff described replacing an existing painted median with a raised concrete median located solely on McIntosh Road; staff said the change would shorten turning radii and help slow traffic. Presenter M. Ungaro said the raised median would not obstruct two-way traffic and estimated onsite work would take about two weeks with temporary traffic reduced to a single lane during construction.
Mallett Engineering solicited public bids for the project. Staff reported four bids were received; the lowest bid was from CGS Waterproofing at $68,100.35, which staff recommended as a fair price. Funding was described as coming from Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG)-restricted funds with a 30% match to be paid from ARPA-restricted funds.
Council Member Scott Israel raised concerns about routing and whether the raised median would cause traffic issues. After discussion the mayor and council asked staff to bring construction drawings and additional details to the next council meeting; the item was tabled pending that information.
