Falmouth Conservation Commission approves minutes, continues multiple hearings and elects Dan Walsh vice chair

The Falmouth Conservation Commission met July 15, 2026, approved minutes from its June 24 meeting, voted to continue several hearings to August 5 to await state review, and elected Dan Walsh as vice chair, effective immediately.

A motion to accept the June 24, 2026 minutes was made, seconded and approved by roll call. Several applicants requested continuances to the commission’s next available hearing while waiting for state comments or to submit minor plan revisions. Those continuances — moved, seconded and approved by roll call — included:

- Stone Arm Construction, 230 Alder Lane: commission accepted staff’s recommendation (negative 3 under state, negative 2 under local bylaw) and determined the work is within a protected area but will not remove, fill, dredge or alter the area; the RDA motion passed. - Patrick Gee, 67 Quonset Road: staff recommended negative 3 (state)/negative 2 (bylaw); the commission’s motion to determine the work is within a protected area but will not alter it passed. - Laura Nunsgeser, 178 Edgewood Drive East (pier repair): staff recommended negative 2 under state and bylaw; the motion passed. - Robert Traina, 34 Bridge Street (maintenance and improvement dredging): applicant requested continuance to August 5 while waiting on state comments; motion to continue passed. - Robert and Dana Smith, 20 Associates Road (stone revetment): continued to August 5 at applicant’s request. - Chapiquit Real Realty Trust, 8 Associates Road (pool, spa, deck, riprap): continued to August 5. - Joshua B. Bernstein, 282 Quissett Ave (single‑family dwelling, Title 5 septic): applicant requested a continuance to August 5 while waiting for state comments and minor data sheets; motion to continue passed.

Commission staff (Alyssa) repeatedly cited pending state comments as the primary reason for continuances: "They're still waiting on the state comments," she said. Staff noted that most plan changes were minor and that applicants would supply outstanding materials before the next hearing.

In other business commissioners nominated Dan Walsh as vice chairman; the nomination was seconded, Walsh accepted the nomination and the roll call vote to elect him passed. The chair noted the vice chair position is effective upon the commission vote and does not require select board approval.

The meeting concluded after a final motion to adjourn; recorded meeting duration was approximately 20 minutes.
