Commission on Local Government approves joint request to defer Leesburg–Loudoun contested‑case schedule

The Virginia Commission on Local Government unanimously approved a joint request on Jan. 6 to defer key deadlines in the contested‑case proceeding between the Town of Leesburg and Loudoun County.
Commissioner Diane M. Linderman moved to adopt the scheduling changes proposed by the parties; Commissioner Edwin S. Rosado seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The Commission recorded that all members present supported the motion.
Under the approved deferral, Loudoun County’s initial responsive filing deadline was extended to May 5, 2023, and the Town of Leesburg’s reply filing deadline was extended to June 23, 2023. The Commission also agreed to cancel its meetings scheduled for May 16–18, 2023, and to extend the date for the Commission’s report to Oct. 5, 2023.
Commission staff will hold a rescheduling hearing with the parties to propose new dates for the canceled meetings; the Commission said it will consider those proposed dates at its March meeting.
The action was presented to the Commission by staff during the cases section of the agenda. The transcript records that the motion was made “with the consent of the parties” and adopted by the Commission without recorded dissent.
