Brooks reviews $37,678 proposal for a 600-foot alternative access to Liberty Tech

Brooks town staff presented a conceptual plan Dec. 16 for an alternate access road to Liberty Tech Charter School intended to reduce congestion and backups on Hwy 85 Connector.
Town staff member M. Ungaro showed a sketch that would route about 600 feet of 12-foot-wide gravel (6-inch compacted sub-base) inside the Brooks Football Field complex to create a cut-through to Price Rd. The rough estimate for materials and work is $37,678; Ungaro said roughly $18,000 of that figure represents labor and equipment charges the Fayette County Road Department would bill the town.
Council Members discussed whether the Fayette County Board of Education (FCBOE) might share costs; Ungaro said FCBOE had not yet been approached. Council Member Scott Israel said he had suggested fundraising or other options by email but had not received a response. Council Member Todd Speer asked whether a legal easement between the town, the charter school and the FCBOE would be required before any construction; Ungaro said he would investigate and coordinate with FCBOE staff. Mayor Langford said he would contact Commissioner Hearn to seek reduced county labor/equipment charges.
Council took no vote on funding or construction at the meeting and asked staff to continue outreach and administrative work.
