FY20 Fiscal Stress Report delayed; Commission hears General Assembly session overview

The Commission was told the FY20 Fiscal Stress Report is incomplete because several localities did not submit data; staff expects to present the report in May or July. Grace Wheaton also reviewed staff responsibilities during the 2022 General Assembly session.
Grace Wheaton, Senior Policy Analyst for the Department of Housing and Community Development, told the Commission that the FY20 Fiscal Stress Report is not ready because Bedford County, Emporia City, Hopewell City and Lee County have not submitted required data. Wheaton said those localities have a six-month grace period to submit data to the Department of Accounts and staff anticipates presenting the report to the Commission for review in either May or July 2022.
Wheaton also briefed the Commission on the General Assembly session and staff processes, including the Fiscal Impact Statement work the Commission undertakes, the budget adoption timeline and pre-filed legislation that could affect the Commission’s mission. The Commission’s regular meeting dates for 2022 were announced as March 10, May 12 and July 14.
There was no other business, and the Commission adjourned after a motion by Diane M. Linderman, seconded by Rosemary M. Mahan.
