David Conmy updated the Commission on the Commission on Local Government’s Mandatory Property Tax Exemption Study, saying the stakeholder workgroup met once and the Commission held a public hearing during its March meeting.
Staff sent a survey to all Virginia localities based on stakeholder feedback; Conmy said the survey had produced roughly 16 responses at the time of the meeting and responses are due by July 21. He said staff will combine survey results with additional research and work with the stakeholder group to develop recommendations for presentation to the Commission at its Nov. 4 regular meeting.
The report timeline described by staff reflects an incremental, evidence-based process: stakeholder input, a public hearing (already held), survey data collection and staff analysis leading to formal recommendations later in the year.
