Arcade City Council approves equipment purchase, contracts and funding in unanimous votes

Arcade — The Arcade City Council on May 11 unanimously approved a slate of routine measures, including a FleetTec snowplow and salt spreader purchase for an F-350, participation in an amicus brief, a funding item labeled 2026-LMIG-LRA, and a termite-control contract with Lodestar Pest Control.
Council Member Cindy Bone presented the April financial report, saying, "The 2026 General Fund Operating Budget by the end of April had a Net Balance of $221,612 and a Year-To-Date balance of $141,268." The council then moved through the evening’s agenda items with unanimous votes on motions brought by council members.
On a motion by Council Member Ron Smith, seconded by Council Member Tom Hays, the council approved purchase of a FleetTec snowplow attachment and salt spreader for the city’s F-350. The council later approved Resolution 2026-04 to permit the city to participate in an amicus brief in Chang v. City of Milton; the motion was made by Smith and seconded by Hays and carried unanimously.
The council approved 2026-LMIG-LRA funding after a motion by Council Member Cindy Bone, seconded by Council Member Ron Smith, and authorized a termite-control contract with Lodestar Pest Control on a motion by Smith, seconded by Hays; all votes were recorded as passed unanimously.
The council considered drafting a veto letter regarding Senate Bill 33 but took no motion because the governor had already signed the bill into law, making a veto letter moot.
Other meeting business included departmental reports: maintenance updates from Council Member Tom Hays (including cleanup of the city’s 10-acre property on Hwy 82 at Athens Street and ongoing grass-cutting), a social media update by Jessica reporting "31 new followers in the last 28 days, 1.1k lifetime followers, up 4.6k content views in the last 28 days," and a police department statistical report by Chief Mike Adams. During the Citizens Requesting to Speak portion, Ward Black introduced himself as a candidate for State Representative. Mayor Doug Haynie recognized members of Leadership Jackson and marked service anniversaries for Chief Mike Adams (20 years) and City Administrator Kila Quigley (10 years).
The meeting closed after Council Member Tom Hays moved to adjourn; the motion was seconded by Council Member Ron Smith and passed unanimously.
