Michiana council hears updates on Village Hall fundraiser, lawsuit loss and approves Day Camp shed purchase

Clerk Anne Heywood promoted an upcoming Village Party and reported on a recent House Walk fundraiser. “The House Walk raised $11,000 and sold 96 tickets,” Heywood said, and she praised Karen Shoshona, Jan Mathes and Lisa Zirpolo for organizing the event.
Under old business Heywood described a poster-based fundraiser—ten posters by a local artist—to support the Village Hall renovation. The posters will be available at the Village Party and on the village website; interested purchasers were asked to contact the village office.
Village Attorney Sara Senica told the council the village lost an appeal in the Court of Appeals and she is awaiting guidance from the MML attorney on how to proceed. “We lost to the Court of Appeals,” Senica said; she provided no timetable for next steps at the meeting.
During public comment residents raised follow-up questions about the water contract and raised concerns about the width of handrails at Stop 40; a resident also said the Day Camp/women’s group pays too little for use of the hall. Council members indicated staff would follow up on those operational concerns.
The council adjourned at 2:56 p.m.
