Councilman Merrill said the Planning Commission may not be spending adequate time on issues brought before it and suggested improving the process for matters that do not automatically include council review. Mayor Rok acknowledged the commission has faced short timelines recently and said staff are developing improved procedures for commercial property zoning decisions; she committed to sharing any county-proposed rezones or developments with council members for comment.
Mayor Rok also asked council members to review a first draft of the council handbook and provide feedback by April 10. She reported meeting with representatives of Jester's Legacy, an advocacy group, to discuss trapper-education outreach and the possibility of special seasonal closures on local areas; she said she will send more information to the council.
Councilman Merrill said he will interview potential new members for the Roads Advisory Board; Councilman Ellis noted upcoming Finance Board and Water Board meetings and said he has information for both boards.
Next steps: Council members will review the handbook draft by April 10; staff and the planning commission will work on process updates; Mayor Rok will circulate details from the meeting with Jester's Legacy.
