At a regular meeting on Jan. 14, 2025, the Star Valley Ranch Town Council confirmed several staff appointments, approved a municipal court ordinance on third reading and received updates about water treatment and community meetings.
The council adopted the consent agenda by unanimous vote, confirming Trevor Aitken as Town Administrator, Kristin Gray as Town Clerk, Loretta Mason as Treasurer and Jim Rodgers as Special Municipal Officer. The consent agenda also appointed Fred Summerfelt as a full member of the Planning Commission.
On the agenda of ordinances, Councilman Rok presented Ordinance 2024-21 (Title III Administration, Chapter 35, Municipal Court) on its third reading. The council voted to approve the ordinance on third reading with all ayes. A second ordinance on third reading, Ordinance 2024-22 (Title III Administration, Chapter 33, Town Organizations), failed to pass because no council member seconded the motion.
The council advanced Ordinance 2025-01 (Title XV Land Usage, Chapter 154 Zoning) on first reading after a motion to approve the first reading passed with all ayes. A separate zoning-adjacent item, Ordinance 2025-02 concerning animal/bear-resistant containers, drew extended public comment and was postponed to March for additional research (see separate coverage).
Councilman Ellis reported that the town water utility received approval to stop chlorinating the water system and that the utility is on track to cease chlorination by Jan. 30. Councilman Merrill also announced a Neighborhood Watch meeting scheduled for Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. at Three Canyons Restaurant. Councilman Rok said the Planning Commission will meet Jan. 22 and will attend the county planning meeting that evening regarding the Mountain Estates proposed subdivision.
The council adjourned after routine closing motions.
Actions taken at the meeting included adoption of personnel and commission appointments, approval of a municipal court ordinance, failure of a town organizations ordinance for lack of second, advancement of a zoning ordinance to the next reading and the formal postponement of the bear-resistant container ordinance to March.
