Sandersville adopts joint comprehensive plan and approves CDBG application; special exception granted for Pine Forest Drive

Special Exception: The council entered a public hearing on Request #2026‑02, a special exception to allow a manufactured home on Pine Forest Drive (parcel #110C‑022, owner Michael Mathis). Building and Zoning Manager Ben Avant said the applicant had met or would meet the requirements and that no opposition had been recorded. Council Member Mayme Dennis moved to approve the special exception; Council Member Deborah Brown seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Comprehensive Plan: Council Member Ben Salter moved to approve Resolution #2026‑03, adopting the Washington County Joint Comprehensive Plan for 2026–2031. Mayor Pro Tem Jeffery Smith seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Community Development Block Grant: Mayor Pro Tem Jeffery Smith moved to approve the City’s FY 2026 application for a Community Development Block Grant. Council Member Deborah Brown seconded; the motion passed unanimously. City Manager Kandice Hartley earlier said the CDBG could not be used for MLK due to insufficient residents and that the city will instead target Grand Street; a public hearing on the Grand Street project is scheduled for March 16 at 6:00 P.M. in Council Chambers.
Procedural note: Council also approved the minutes from Feb. 17, 2026, by unanimous vote earlier in the meeting.
